In order to mitigate the escalating cholera cases in the country, the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) says it has, in the last week, distributed over 160,000 various essentials commodities aimed at both treating and preventing the further spread of the disease.
In a statement, ZAMMSA said this was in addition to their scheduled distribution of medicines and medical supplies to all the health facilities across the country.
The Agency added that they have since ramped up efforts in distributing essential health commodities used in the management and treatment of Cholera in response to the Government of the Republic of Zambia’s call for a multi-sectoral approach to halt the spreading of the epidemic.
ZAMMSA said it had also distributed over 4600 bottles of disinfectants, 43000 packs of IV Fluids, 50000 examination gloves, 50,000 Cannulas and 8,000 Infusion giving Sets.
The Agency added that Further it has distributed more than adequate quantities of Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS), Granular Chlorine, Mannitol Solution, Shrouds for both children and adults and various protective clothing and Gumboots for health workers.
ZAMMSA said it intensified this distribution at the onset of the epidemic and would like to assure the nation that the distribution process to combat Cholera was ongoing and more products would be distributed countrywide.
