President Hakainde Hichilema paid his respects yesterday morning by attending a solemn church service held in memory of the late Ronnie Shikapwasha, former Information Minister. The service took place at the prestigious Mulungushi International Conference Center in Lusaka, where mourners gathered to honor and remember the contributions of the esteemed minister. President Hichilema’s presence at the requiem service demonstrated his deep respect for Shikapwasha and his commitment to acknowledging the significant role he played in the nation’s development.
Tragically, Lieutenant General Shikapwasha, aged 76, passed away as a result of a shooting incident that occurred at his residence in the peaceful Ibex Hill area. The incident has led to the detention of his wife, who is being held in connection with his untimely demise.
General Shikapwasha, a distinguished figure, dedicated his career to serving his country, Zambia. He held several significant positions, including the Commander of the Zambia Airforce-ZAF, various cabinet portfolios, and also served as the Member of Parliament for Keembe constituency during the tenure of the MMD government. Throughout his time in public service, General Shikapwasha left an indelible mark, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that will be remembered for years to come.
President Hichilema, in his address to the grieving attendees, paid tribute to the deceased former cabinet minister, emphasizing his esteemed position within the Zambian community. The President highlighted the late minister’s unwavering commitment to his responsibilities, showcasing a remarkable dedication to duty. Furthermore, the President commended the minister for exemplifying true service to the people, devoid of any pretentiousness, thereby setting a noble example for others to follow.
President Hichilema expressed his sincere apologies to the entire public who may have experienced inconvenience due to the alterations made in the burial program. He acknowledged that these changes were necessary due to other important commitments and events that had arisen.
The public in Central Province has been called upon by the conventional leadership to offer their prayers for the wife of General Shikapwasha, who is presently detained by the police.
